Dialogue

Starting it

  1. “Hey, hold on. You're new. I can tell. You've still got grass on you, from waking up in a field. We all did that once. Some of us still do.”
  2. “Now, around here, everybody new gets a tent. That's just the way it is. Nobody remembers who started it. I like to think it was me.”
  3. “So here. A voucher. Hollis keeps the tents, at his stall in Meadowbay.”
  4. “Meadowbay's east, on the coast. Walk till you smell fish. And come back and see me sometime. Most people don't. I'd like it if you did.”

Talking to them again

  1. “You've already got your voucher. It's one tent a person. Otherwise everybody'd have two, and then it's not a tent, it's a neighbourhood.”
  2. “Meadowbay's east. Hollis has the stall with the tents. You can't miss it. People do. But you can't.”

Handing it in

  1. “A voucher. That's Vern's handwriting. I'd know it anywhere. Mostly from vouchers.”
  2. “Well, a deal's a deal, even when I didn't make it. Here's your tent.”
  3. “Try not to sleep in it near anything with teeth. That's not advice, that's just what happened to the last fella.”

At the hand-in without the item

  1. “No voucher, no tent. That's the whole system. It's not a good system, but it's the one we have.”

When your bag is full

  1. “Your bag's full. I'd hold it for you, but then I'd have it, and that's how people lose things.”
