Skye Fairweather, Ziggy's cousin, an old alpinist camped on the shoulder above Rimeholt, thinks everything looks better from above. He lent you a camera: photograph five of the Alpine Isle's sights for the family book, each from higher up than the thing itself and never in a blizzard. A lake that froze out of stubbornness, the old lookout, the gorge from the top, the town's roofs and the cairn up on the north peak. Then show him.

Dialogue
Starting it
- “Name's Skye. Ziggy's cousin. Ziggy shoots from a ridge. A ridge. That's a hill that gave up halfway.”
- “We're doing a family book, an island each, and I've got the mountains. Every shot's planned. Every one from up high. Heights I can't get to any more.”
- “I lost a toe up there. Then I went back for the toe. Lost another one. I'm down to the ones I need for standing. I'm not risking the standing ones.”
- “So you go up. You'll need a camera for that, so here. It's been higher than most birds. Don't tell it about Ziggy's.”
- “Five shots. A lake that froze and stayed that way out of stubbornness. The old lookout. And the gorge. From the top, not the bottom.”
- “The town's roofs, from above. And the north peak over Rimeholt. There's a cairn on top. You get up there with it.”
- “Every one from higher than the thing itself. From under it, it's a postcard. And not in a blizzard. A blizzard's just a picture of weather.”
- “Then come back up here and show me. Bring your feet back too. All of them. I'll count.”
Talking to them again
- “The lake, the lookout, the gorge from the top, the town's roofs and the north peak. All from above. From down low it's just what everybody's seen.”
- “Wait out the blizzards. They always quit. That's the one thing they've got in common with me.”
Handing it in
- “Glassmere. Froze one winter and never got over it. I know people like that. I'm related to most of them.”
- “The old lookout. They built it to watch for trouble. From up here you can see the trouble coming, and it's just the lookout.”
- “The gorge, from the top. From the bottom, a gorge is a hole you're in. From the top, it's a hole somebody else is in. Much better.”
- “Look at that. You can see Rimeholt from here. You can also see Rimeholt from Rimeholt, but people do that every day.”
- “And the north peak. You stood up there. Thin air, huh? Clears the head. Mostly by taking things out of it.”
- “That's the chapter. Here, my old ice axe strap. Kept the axe on my arm thirty years. Kept the arm on me too.”
After it is done
- “Ziggy says mine are too high. Too high. That's like saying the sky's too up.”
- “Your pictures are in the book. Up near the top of the page. Where they belong.”
If you lose the item
- “One of them's gone. You threw it out? That's all right. The mountain's still up there. It doesn't go anywhere. That's its whole thing.”
When your bag is full
- “Your bag's full. I'd carry the camera for you, but I travel light. That's how I lost the toes. Travelling light.”
the bottom
- “That's the bottom of it. Everybody's seen the bottom.”
whiteout
- “Can't see a thing in that. That's a picture of weather.”
