Corky, a retired gunslinger camped by the wrecked stagecoach on the Salt Pan, is building a land yacht: a wagon with a sail. He needs two good wheels off the wrecked carts at the Broken Wheel Arch and the Boneyard (an axe pries them off), a sail sewn from cloth at a workbench, and a mast: one of the tall dead trees out on the pan, chopped down and carried back to him.
Steps
- Bring Corky two good wheels off the wrecked carts (an axe pries them off), a sail sewn at a workbench, and a tall dead tree off the Salt Pan for a mast
- Sail Corky's land yacht round his six flags on the Salt Pan, in order, and beat his time
- Tell Corky your time · The Salt Pan
Reward
400 gold and XP. The land yacht stays on the Salt Pan, for anyone who's run his course
Dialogue
Starting it
- “Well, howdy, partner! Name's Corky. Fastest gun in the territory, eleven years runnin'. Then I ran plumb out of fellas to outdraw.”
- “So now I aim to be the fastest thing on this here salt. A wagon with a sail on her. Wind pushes, I steer, and nobody gets shot. Mostly.”
- “Now, I'd fetch the parts myself. But every bounty hunter in the territory knows this face. One of 'em would try his luck. I'd win. But it slows a man down.”
- “I'm short three things. Two wagon wheels, a sail and a mast. You fetch, I hammer. That's a partnership.”
- “Wheels first. Two busted old carts out yonder, one by the Broken Wheel Arch, one in the Boneyard. Take an axe and pry a wheel off each.”
- “Mind, one wheel on each cart's cracked clean through. You'll see it. Pry that one and it falls apart like a drunk at a weddin'.”
- “The sail, you sew from cloth at a workbench. Here's the pattern. It's a triangle. Don't get creative.”
- “And a mast. Chop down one of them tall dead trees out on the salt and haul it back here. She's heavy. You'll walk like you just got off a horse.”
- “Bring it all back to this here stagecoach. I ain't goin' anywhere. Neither is the last fella who came lookin' for me. He's under the cow skull.”
Talking to them again
- “Six flags, in order, fast as she'll go. The wind does the work. You just point her and holler.”
- “She won't sail straight into the wind. Nothin' will. Zigzag across it, like you're runnin' from a fella with a rifle. You'd know how, I reckon.”
Handing it in
- “Fastest anybody's ever gone on this salt. Faster than me, and I've had a posse behind me.”
- “Here's your pay. And she stays right here. Anybody who's run the flags can take her out.”
- “Me? Nah, I won't race her. Fastest gun in the territory don't lose to a wagon. I'm retirin' undefeated. Again.”
After it is done
- “She's out there whenever you want her. Just bring her back in one piece. I still remember how to aim.”
- “Fella rode in askin' who's the fastest on the salt. I pointed at you. He left. Smart fella.”
When your bag is full
- “Your bag's fuller than a saloon on payday. Lighten up and come on back.”
build
- “Well, would you look at that. Stand back, partner. I swing a hammer like I used to swing a pistol. Fast, and at whoever's closest.”
- “There she is! A wagon with a sail. Ugliest thing on the salt, and I've seen my own reflection.”
- “Here's the game. Six flags out on the salt, round 'em in order. My watch starts at the first flag and stops at the last.”
- “Wind is free. You just can't argue with it. I've tried.”
- “I got a time in my head. Beat it, and you're the fastest thing out here. That used to be me. I'll allow it. Once.”
call back
- “Stuck out there, huh? Hold on. I'll haul her back in.”
- “Hung her up on somethin'? Happens. She's back at the park.”
- “Back she comes. Try steerin' around the rocks this time. They don't move.”
first run
- “Ha! Faster than a horse! And a horse'll throw you, bite you and eat your hat. This thing just sits there and waits.”
missed
- “Too slow, partner. Out here, too slow gets you buried. Today it just gets you another go.”
- “Close. But close only counts in horseshoes and dynamite. Go again.”
need mast
- “Still no mast. One of them tall dead trees out on the salt. Chop it and drag it here. I'd help, but I'm supervisin'.”
need sail
- “Where's my sail? Cloth, sewn at a workbench, in a triangle. Bring me a square and folks'll think we're surrenderin'.”
need wheels
- “Still need two wheels, off them old carts at the Broken Wheel Arch and the Boneyard. Bring an axe. Them wheels don't come off for askin' nice.”
