Abe says one of the beast bones out in the Ashen Waste glows at night, so it must be lucky. He sat by it a whole night once and has been "lucky" ever since. He can't walk that far anymore (he gets out of breath; he says that's the luck too), so he lent you his "bone finder" (it says GEIGER on the side): it clicks faster the nearer you get. Find the bone it goes wild at, chip a shard off it with a pickaxe, and bring the shard and the bone finder back to Abe at Ashen Landing.
Quest item:
Lucky Bone Shard
Reward
150 gold, a lucky Straw Hat (Gold Finder) and XP
Dialogue
Starting it
- “There's a bone out in the waste that glows at night. Green. I've seen it. Nothing glows like that unless it's lucky.”
- “I sat next to it one whole night. Felt lucky straight away. Warm all over. A week later my hair started coming out. Making room.”
- “I'd go back for a bit of it, but I can't walk far anymore. End of the jetty and I'm out of breath. Luck sits heavy on the chest.”
- “So take my bone finder. Out there the bones all look the same. This clicks when the lucky one's near.”
- “The closer you get, the faster it clicks. When it sounds like rain on a tin roof, you're standing on it.”
- “Bring a pickaxe and chip me off a little bit. Just a little. Taking the whole thing, that's where people go wrong.”
- “The waste is west of here, past where the trees give up. If you start feeling warm all over, you're close. Congratulations.”
Talking to them again
- “Still clicking? Good. The faster it goes, the luckier you're getting. When it's raining on the roof, start chipping.”
- “The waste is west, past the dead trees. If your gums start to tingle, that's normal. Mine haven't stopped since spring.”
Handing it in
- “My lucky bone! Look at it. Warm as toast. I'll keep it in a jar. Out back, away from the shop. And the house. And me.”
- “And I'll have the bone finder back, ta. Listen to it go. I've never heard it so happy.”
- “Here's your cut. And my old hat. It's a lucky one, it finds you money. Hasn't fit me since the hair went.”
- “You look a bit pale. That's the luck. It takes the colour out of you first. Then the rest.”
After it is done
- “I keep the shard in a jar out back. It glows all night. The cat won't go near it. Cats don't understand luck.”
- “Lost a tooth this morning. Lucky, though. It was the one that hurt.”
At the hand-in without the item
- “No bone yet? Keep at it. If the finder's not going like rain on a tin roof, you're not there yet.”
When your bag is full
- “Your bag's full. Make some room. Last thing you want is luck rolling around loose in there.”
